Being organized helps you succeed in business.

Do you have certain tools you use to keep organized? Did you know that organization decreases anxiety and overwhelm. People who know me and have been to my house, know that I am organized, but not in an overly obsessive way. My closest is color coordinated, my jewelry is kept neatly arranged, my kitchen and refrigerator make my meals efficient. All my stuff has a place, and sometimes that place is on a pile on the floor. However, if someone needs something, I can say, it's in this room, in this drawer and to the left. I like to keep things in order as it saves me time, energy and unnecessary stress. A cluttered space can impact your home life, your work life and your relationships. Disorganization and clutter can also bring on excess weight by affecting food choices and motivation. In the future, I may share with you my tips for getting your physical space organized, but this time around, the mind is on my mind.

Keeping your mind space organized is just as important as keeping your physical space organized.

So how do I keep my mind organized? I have been using a planner for as long as I can remember. It is one of the first things I used to buy when school started. As I have been out of school for sometime, I have moved on from having the scholar calendar that goes from September to the New Year, to one that starts in January. The #freedommasteryplanners have everything I need for my life and my business. Besides the fact they are beautiful to hold, the pages hold ink beautifully and there is plenty of space to plan and organize. The company describes it as a life planner, success planner and happiness planner all in one. Now to me, that is the best kind of planner all in hands reach.

Now before I get to my tips on how to organize your mind, let me tell you why you would want to get organized in the first place.

  • Reduce stress and anxiety - stress is inevitable, but increasing your organization can definitely decrease the overwhelm

  • Increases productivity - organization allows you to meet your deadlines and plan appropriately

  • Saves you time - time is one of our most precious resources so having your work organized and planned out will make you more efficient

  • Improves communication - being organized allows you to keep your customers happy - the last thing you need is to forget what the conversation was about with a potential client - keeping it organized makes it personal and makes for good business

  • Increases creativity - working with a relaxed mind, allows you to tap into a certain part of your brain that increases creativity and ultimately a better end result

  • Increases profit - yes, as a business owner you will increase your profit when your mind is organized.

Tips to Organize your Mind

  • Stop multitasking - There was a time when people would say they are excellent at multitasking and really be proud of it as an accomplishment. Multitasking decreases performance and efficiency as the brain is optimized when focusing on one thing. The executive functions of the brain such as cognitive processes are affected by multitasking and can affect cognitive ability.

  • Organize your schedule - When you have an organized schedule using a calendar you have a planned sequence of events. This structure allows for ease in your mind and direction in your plan. This reliability allows you to handle unpredictable situations more effectively and decrease the potential overwhelm.

  • Be mindful - Research has shown us over and over again that being mindful and practicing mindfulness affects the area of the brain known as the amygdala. This almond shaped area is known for its role in flight and fight response and practicing mindfulness can decrease the grey matter in the amygdala. Mindfulness can also increase the pre-frontal cortex which is responsible for your emotions, problems solving and planning skills.

  • Disconnect - Our most precious organ needs time to rest. Taking the time to disconnect will allow your mind to work better. This may be as simple as taking a break from technology, taking a walk in nature, or having a wholesome meal (just you and your food with no distractions)

  • Sleep effectively - People tell me often they have no problem sleeping. They can fall asleep as soon as they hit the pillow. Then there are others who tell me after their daily glass of wine, they have no problem falling asleep. Now when I talk about sleeping effectively, it is about being able to go thru all the stages of sleep without sleep aids and to come out on the other other end ready and recharged. When we do not experience effective sleep it affects our concentration, our memory and and our mood.

So now this all started with me being excited about the arrival of my planner which always coming the first week of December, but it also gave me a chance to share with you a tool I use to create goals, increase my creativity, review my daily habits, improve productivity and clarify my life purpose.
